SIOBHÁN MCMAHON graduated from NUIG in English and Philosophy. After graduating she taught English and drama in Basildon, Essex and returned to Ireland where she directed various stage plays including Of Mice and Men, Twelve Angry Men and Dead Poets Society which she adapted for the stage.
She then attended a Film Production and Direction course at Ballyfermot College of Further Education, and towards the end of the first year she successfully interviewed for the position of trainee Editor on the feature film Reign of Fire. Following this she worked in the editing department on the Oscar Nominated feature film In America.
She is Guest Lecturer in Writing and Directing in LIT, Department of Animation and Motion Design, and a part-time Tutor in Creative writing.
Siobhán's first short film script, The Consolation of Orion, was shortlisted for FilmOffaly Award 2011 and won the Filmbase/RTE Short Film Award Scheme in 2011.
The film was shortlisted for the NY Shorts Fest and LA Shorts Fest. Siobhán's attendance at the LA Shorts Fest was kindly funded by Culture Ireland.
Siobhán was shortlisted as Director for the Galway Film Centre/RTE Short Film Award in 2013 and 2015.
In 2017 Siobhán was awarded the Kildare Co.Council /Short Grass Films Film Fund in the role of Writer/Director for her short film script "Taking Stock" which is currently in pre-production.
Whilst lecturing in Creative Writing, Siobhán is currently writing a feature and receiving film scripts with a view to directing.
